Directions:  Record each driving experience with your parents during your Driver Education course.   List the date, the minutes of driving time, and which pre-drive practice was done.  See other side for instructions.  Have your parent sign the sheet to verify your practice time.  This record sheet should show a minimum of 26 hours drive time as described on the other side of this sheet.

Pre-Drive practices & Lessons:

Dear Parents,              
Listed below are the six on-street lessons and pre-drive practices for this course. Please follow the recommendations listed below to help your student gain the skills necessary to handle a vehicle safely and be prepared for the next drive lesson. The student must be able to control the vehicle at a slow speed before driving up to the speed limit. Your student should be driving 5 mph under the speed limit throughout this course. Your student will be learning the maneuvers necessary to pass the Department of Licensing skills test. Record driving practice time on the reverse side of this sheet. Thanks!

Pre-drive one: Student should be able to use and/or understand the use of all controls and instruments in the driver’s area of the car. Student should be able to start the car and drive forward or reverse and stop smoothly on level ground or up/down hill. Student should practice in the family driveway or a vacant parking lot. Student should spend at least two hours on these skills. (Parents – please, no rural highway driving until after drive #4 and no freeway diving until after drive #6 ! )

Lesson One: Student will learn the Pre-Drive Checklist, Starting, Stopping, Backing Straight, Backing Around the Corner, Left and Right Turns, Left and Right Turnabout, Pullover, and Merge.
Pre-drive two:
Student should master all maneuvers taught in lesson one. Student should spend at least two hours on these skills and one hour on destination driving.

Lesson Two: Student will learn U-Turn, Y-Turnabout, Uphill and Downhill Parking, Following Distance, Scanning, Lane Changes, and Medium Traffic Mix
Pre-drive three:
Student should master all the maneuvers taught in lesson two and review those taught in lesson one. Student should spend at least two hours on these skills and two hours on destination driving.

Lesson Three: Student will learn Lane and Speed Control and Scanning on the Country Drive and review Lane Changes and Left and Right Turns.
Pre-drive four:
Student should master all the maneuvers taught in lesson three and review those taught in lessons one and two. Student should spend at least two hours on these skills and three hours on destination driving.

Lesson Four: Student will learn Parallel Parking, Angle Parking, and Perpendicular Parking in a Medium Traffic Mix.
Pre-drive five:
Student should master al maneuvers taught in lesson four and review those taught in lessons one, two and three. Student should spend at least two hours on these skills and three hours on destination driving.

Lesson Five: Student will review Parallel Parking, Backing Around the Corner, Lane Changes, Turns, Pullover and Merge, Joining Traffic, and Lane and Speed Control.
Pre-drive Six:
Student should master all maneuvers taught I lessons one through five. Student should spend at least two hours on these skills and four hours on destination driving.

Lesson Six: Part 1: Student will demonstrate all Road Test maneuvers with enough skill to pass the DOL Road Test without additional instruction. If additional instruction is necessary, the student will receive more instruction then schedule and pay for a re-do of Lesson Six. Part 2: If part 1 was successful, the student will learn to Merge onto the Freeway, Lane Change, Exit from the Freeway using correct Following Distance, Scanning, Speed and Lane Control.
